The B-P Charter
In order to help make your Ragbrai Experience more enjoyable Padre is teaming up with Bubba for this event. Of
course this is for the "charter" part of the service. You will be staying in Padres tents and will receive the same great
service that you have come to expect from Padre and the Padre's Staff.
So why team up with another tent service? It's this simple. The larger charters receive "some" priorities in camping
spots in "some" of the host towns. Since Padre and Bubba have been friends since our years on the Police Dept. it
seemed natural to join together in order to serve you better.
Congratulations on being a part of our team.

FAQ’s
1. So, what if I am new to RAGBRAI, what should I expect?
If you have never been to Ragbrai, here are some things you need to know:
RAGBRAI is the largest week long bicycle event in the world. It is also one of the biggest revenue producing events
yearly for the State of Iowa. RAGBRAI is a very unique event indeed.
You will need to be flexible, understanding, and patient all the while keeping a good attitude. No whining is ever
allowed on RAGBRAI. Part of your RAGBRAI experience will be standing in lines, using Porta-Potties or KYBO’s as
the Iowans call them.
Don’t come if you plan to diet. You will miss out on lots of great food freshly prepared by the citizens of Iowa.
There is no opportunity to be shy while riding with thousands and thousands of other riders, camping among
thousands of others, listening to great music daily, seeing things on a bike you never imagined you would ever see
and enjoying the hospitality of Iowa.
No RAGBRAI experience is complete without using Iowa corn fields as restrooms.
It is said Iowa corn taste different for two reasons: Number One and Number Two! (That’s Bubba’s line, he really
likes it)
So, come prepared to have a great time while maintaining a great attitude and remain flexible. Remember, No
Whining!
2. So, will the B-P Charter be camping close to where the action is?
All charters, including the B-P charter, are pre-assigned camping locations by each over-nights camping committee.
It should go without saying, the B-P charter will do everything possible to assure the very best camping locations
available, however, we will be at the mercy of the camping committee. With that said, the B—P charter, cannot/will
not, in good faith, promise you will be camping close to the “action” whatever that means to you, since the action is
everywhere. So, No Whining Allowed. What the B-P charter can promise is to make your RAGBRAI camping
experience as enjoyable and comfortable as possible
3. So, exactly why is the B—P charter returning on Sunday instead of Saturday anyway?
If you have ever ridden RAGBRAI in the past, you most likely will not be asking this question. The ending location is
always very chaotic with over 15,000 riders, support vehicles, buses, trucks, and locals all converging into a small
area. Most other charters demand their riders to rush into the ending town by mid-morning to start the loading
process. Does that sound like fun?
So, the B—P charter will be staying over and camping at the ending town. This will allow you to enjoy the full
RAGBRAI experience, not 95% of it. You will be a part of the ONLY charter which will allow you to enjoy all of
RAGBRAI.
So, relax on your last day while saving enough time for bike loading. Take your time. Eat lunch along the way. Dip
your front wheel. Shop the bargains in the expo area. After all, it is your RAGBRAI and you deserve nothing less
than 100% of it.
4. So, what time do I have to be moving in the morning?
The baggage truck will leave at 7:30 AM sharp. This should give you plenty of time since you will not be dealing with
taking down a tent. That is our job, remember?
You will need to be out of your tent no later than 7 AM to allow the staff to start the take-down process. It is very
important for the B—P staff to get on the road to the next location as soon as possible in order to have things ready
for your arrival.
5. What about baggage, how much can I bring?
Well, since the B—P charter will be providing you with a tent, air mattress, towel, and chair, what is left for you to
bring? Clothing and bedding. Everyone who has been PAMPERED in the past has found two smaller bags provide
plenty of space for everything needed. I am sure you can do this as well. Please keep each bag under 40 pounds.
My gosh, that is 80 pounds of clothing!
6. So, what is this “SWAT Team” all about?
Well, Bubba and Padre were on the St. Louis police SWAT Team together way back in the mid-70’s when the concept
first got started. Wow, that makes Bubba and Padre pretty darned old! Now however, Bubba and Padre are in the
business of providing a great service on bicycle events. So, while on RAGBRAI, SWAT can mean:
“Service With A Tent”
Or perhaps, “Sucks Without A Tent”.
Or any other phrase which works for you. Matter of fact, a prize will be awarded to the person who comes up with the
best phrase of what SWAT means while on RAGBRAI. So, put your thinking caps on and come up with a great
RAGBRAI meaning of SWAT. Bubba and Padre will pick the winner.
While on RAGBRAI you will be part of the “SWAT Team” which will allow you to SWAT the other riders of RAGBRAI.
Each of you will be given a “SWAT Team Swatter”. Once you SWAT a fellow RAGBRAI rider with your “SWAT Team
Swatter”, you can stick an official “You have been SWATTED by the SWAT Team” sticker on them.
This will most certainly not only add to your RAGBRAI experience but those of whom you SWAT as well. So come
prepared to do some serious Swatting.
You will also be given an official SWAT Team Jersey, T-shirt, and SWAT Team cap which will most certainly become
highly coveted by the other riders.
7. So, will the B—P charter guarantee me a RAGBRAI rider number?
No charter, including the B—P charter, can guarantee that your registration will be accepted and awarded a
RAGBRAI rider number. You will have to register for RAGBRAI on your own. If you register for RAGBRAI on the first
day that registration is allowed, you should have no problem getting a rider number. Please check on the RAGBRAI
web site for details about registering and receiving your rider number. That said, do not worry too much about the
number issue, there are always people needing to sell their numbers for various reasons. NO BANDIT RIDERS WILL
BE ALLOWED ON THE B—P CHARTER! You MUST be a registered RAGBRAI rider with a rider number to be part of
the B—P charter.
8. So, what if I need to cancel for some reason?
Bubba and Padre understand things happen which are out of any ones control. So, here is the cancellation policy.
If you cancel before May 23, 2010, you will receive a full refund minus a $50 cancellation fee.
If you cancel between May 24 and June 23, 2010, you will receive a full refund minus a $100 cancellation fee.
Sorry, due to contractual obligations, no refund will be offered for ANY REASON less than 30 days prior to the start of
the event. Please, do not make Bubba and/or Padre be the bad guys by asking for a refund less than 30 days from
the start of the event. Really, it just cannot be done for ANY reasons.
Trip insurance is available through McKay Insurance Company, and others. Please read carefully the terms of this
insurance. http://www.mckayinsagency.com/
9. If I need to cancel 30 days prior to the ride start, can I sell my RAGBRAI registration and B-P Charter in an effort to
recoup my money?
The B—P charter will do everything possible to find a buyer of your rider number and your registration with the
charter. Of course, no promises can be made.
10. So, how many riders will the B—P Charter be taking?
The B—P charter will have limited number of slots, 300. These slots will be booked rather quickly after which a “wish-
list” will be maintained.
11. So, what is the cost for the B—P Charter
Well, that depends on which tent option you chose; Single in a regular tent, Single in a Padre Dome, Double in a
regular tent, Double in a Padre Dome. Pricing for all options are available below, or on the registration form.
12. Do we need to send in the total amount at the time of registration?
Your RAGBRAI registration fee (rider number) will need to be paid when you register on line with RAGBRAI for the
ride.
We are offering a payment plan for the charter fees. The payment plan is as follows:
A minimum 40% deposit must accompany the B-P charter registration form.
The remaining 60% must be paid in full, on or before May 23, 2010 or your slot cannot be held. You are welcome to
make partial payments before May 23rd to fit your needs, however, all monies due will need to be paid by May 23.
The May date is when RAGBRAI releases all rider numbers (you got in). Coordinating the final amount due and the
RAGBRAI registration will allow you time to learn if you received a RAGBRAI rider number which is, as you know,
required to be part of this charter. Please review the cancellation policy before registering for the B-P charter.
Cancelation fees will be applied to any and all fees paid.
Please remember, if you are paying by credit card you will need to phone Padre with your information each time you
pay towards the service.
